Gealdýr and the spiritual power of music

Jonathan Barendsma is the Nordic Folk musician and dedicated history nerd behind the project Gealdýr. In our interview the Dutch singer-songwriter opens up about eg. past, current and future projects, his health struggles and explains how music connects to the spiritual world as well as to science.

Gealdýr aims to bring Old Norse wisdom back to life through music. Starting in 2019, this project has become an established name in the Nordic folk/Viking genre over the past few years, reaching impressive 144000 listeners monthly on Spotify. Gealdýr’s music is also a part of Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla.
