Seven Spires – Emerald Seas

Label: Frontiers Records    Release Date: 14.02.2020

The US-band Seven Spires are probably unknown to most of you, even though they have already released their second album with “Emerald Seas”. In Europe they might have just  arrived since singer Adrienne Cowan had the honor to tour with Avantasia and since she also is the voice of Sascha Paeth’s new project Master of Ceremony. Paeth was also responsible for the Mastering of the new Seven Spires album.

Seven Spires play Melodic Metal in the range from romantic to brutal, from theatrical to poppy. They offer a lot, from pompous compositions to sound chaos. The musicians who met each other at Bosten Music College do know what they are doing and have great skills which you can hear quickly. And Adrienne’s voice is as variable as the rest of the music. From soft high vocals to brutal growls or musical style, this girl does it all. The voice is great, no question, I find the clean vocals just a bit too smooth and therefore lacking instant-recognition factor. The song “Drowner of Worlds” presents for the first time the full range of  Adrienne’s growling, which she does really well. This should be part of more songs, switching between clean and growls, to make the album more interesting vocal-wise. “Emerald Seas” is a good record, without question, and to put it like this, for me Seven Spires sound like a mix of Nightwish, Arch Enemy and Blackmores Night.
