Cyhra – No Halos in Hell

Label: Nuclear Blast  Playing Time: 48 Min  Release: 15th November 2019

Cyhra – the name is not familiar with most Metalheads yet. But the members of the band are well-known musicians: Jake E , former Amaranthe, Jesper Strömblad, former In Flames, and also Euge Valovirta, former Shining. Difficult to imagine how a mixture of these three very different bands could sound. In fact, the sound of Cyhra has not much in common with the bands mentioned. They have already developed their own musical identity.

How does this identity sound like? The basis is – what else? – Heavy Metal. This sort of Heavy Metal can hardly be put into well-known genres. Death Metal? Not really. Power Metal? A little bit. Modern Metal? Yes, also. But what else? Also a portion of American Metal in the style of Disturbed. Jake E creates catchy vocal lines which become catchy tunes soon. In contrast to that, the instrumentalists are not as successful. This is a matter of different circumstances. One circumstance are the toothless guitar riffs (only positive exception is ‘Hit Me’). Other circumstances are missing guitar leads and the high amount of reverb. All in all, “No Halos In Hell” is a pleasing and catchy piece of Pop-Heavy Metal, but it lacks some edge. I would like to have more aggressive guitars of Jesper Strömblad in the future.
