Iron Savior – Kill Or Get Killed

Label: AFM Records  Playing Time: 50 Min  Release: 15th March 2019

Iron Savior from Hamburg are one of the most enduring and constant bands in German Metal underground. These days, they are releasing their 11th studio album since their foundation in 1996. A gigantic number, especially because the band has never achieved the huge success of their “big brothers” Helloween and Gamma Ray.

Unimpressed by this fact, Piet Sielck and his sidekicks are releasing “Kill Or Get Killed” today. Those who like the basic Heavy Metal without too much extras like keys, orchestras or choirs, will feel comfortable with this release. In terms of style, there are no huge differences from earlier recordings. Only the quite long ‘Until We Meet Again’ is very versatile and a bit atypical for the band. All the other tracks are more or less straight-forward and well performed and produced.

So everything is as it used to be? Yes, I think. Unfortunately, I would like to say. As well as the sound, the hit potential too is as low as on previous albums, only the title track is catchy. In addition the songs ‚Roaring Thunder‘, ‚From Dust And Ruble‘, ‚Stand Up And Fight‘ and ‚Legends Of Glory‘ have their moments, but they do not reach the level of the band’s own classics. All the rest, and we are talking about half of the album, is placed anywhere between good and bad in the no-man’s-land of quality.
