Jason Momoa! As if you needed more reasons to watch this movie… yeah, seriously.

The Aquaman character has always been a bit pushed aside in the DC comic books – high time to have this super hero starring in his origin story. And wow, what a story, what an amazing trip into a parallel world – which is actually not that far away and which we managed to mess up without even having explored all of it yet… This is actually one of the topics in this movie, not even poignantly enough for my taste to get a real-life issue across …

It’s also high time for Jason Momoa to step out of the Game of Thrones shadow – which should be the case with this breathtaking adventure. His powerful new interpretation of the Aquaman character has already been a highlight in the Justice League movie and here he can fully present his skills and charisma – action, muscles, super powers, but also humanity and vulnerability, plus a big wicked smile and a twinkle in the eye. There are several scenes where the line between Aquaman and Jason as a person seems to vanish…

There’s of course more that makes a well done movie adventure, first of all the high quality crew featuring Amber Heard (Mera), Patrick Wilson (King Orm), Temuera Morrison (Tom Curry) and Willem Dafoe (Vulko), with other big names like Nicole Kidman (Atlanna) and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) in supporting roles. A capable director – James Wan, who also co-wrote story and script with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Will Beall and Geoff Johns.

I can promise to you that you will be impressed by mind-blowing visuals – the knowledge “it’s just CGI” nevertheless. A huge compliment to those who came up with this amazing parallel world, incl. really bad-ass sea horses…
Aaaaand maybe a suggestion for those who get sea-sick easily – you might re-consider the options of watching the 3D / IMAX version …
