Brothers Of Metal – Prophecy Of Ragnarök

Label: AFM Records  Playing Time: 52 Min  Release: 16th November 2018

The Brothers Of Metal are a formation of eight (!) guys and girls coming from Falun / Sweden. They do not only have two male and one female vocalists, but also three guitar players. The band is quite new in the scene and is about to release their first album Prophecy of Ragnarök. The style of the band ranges from Sabaton (in terms of music) to Manowar (in terms of lyrics and much more). Song titles like ‘Gods Of War’ (wasn’t there an album of Manowar titled like this?) and ‘Believe In Metal (reminds me of a Manowar song title) say enough. In addition there are twelve more tracks, which all deal with northern mythology. As far as I remember, there was a band dealing with that topic, called… Wait a moment, I’ll remember soon… Ah, yes! Manowar! Not to mention Amon Amarth and three dozen other bands who do that as well… So in terms of lyrics, the Brothers Of Metal haven chosen a safe topic. Not to say a quite boring one…

But how’s the music? As I wrote before, the biggest influence is obviously Sabaton. But there is no doubt that there are also some influences from a well-known Power Metal band from the USA. I just forgot their name… The Brothers (And Sisters – how they should be named correctly) are always walking the thin line between catchiness and cheesiness. Songs like the opener ‘Death Of God And Light’ and ‘Fire Blood And Steel’ (The title reminds me of one band… Which is it?) are very well done. But much more stuff is more or less average and sometimes also awfully cheesy (the already mentioned ‘We Believe In Metal’).

If you like easy listening stuff like Sabaton and Manowar (now I remember the band’s name!), you could give the guys and girls a try. But if you are feeling sick from listening the originals, don’t try this!
