Falcun – Kingdom Come

Label: Eat Metal Records    released: 11 June 2018

Admittedly, when hearing “India” it’s rather Bollywood, Gurus and Yoga poses that pop up in my mind and not quite names of Power Metal bands from this corner of the world. And I assume it would be the case for most people here…

Well, Falcun from Kolkata and their debut album Kingdome Come (recorded, mixed and mastered at Monk Studios Inc., released via Greek label Eat Metal Records) could change that. One of the reasons is their music channelling Old School NWOBHM, which is still quite popular world-wide. Another one is the fact that  Abhishek Dasgupta (Vocals), Anirban Dasroy (Guitars), Debarshi ‘Bob’ Chakraborty (Drums), Nilavro ‘Rony’ Ghosh (Bass) and Samrat Daas (Guitars) not only know their NWOBHM legends but also meet the standards. The skills of instrumentalists and vocalists are without doubt, which is already proved by the opener “Bard’s Tale” that mixes Iron Maiden / Judas Priest / Overkill elements. Old-School fans might cry tears of joy already …

And the band continues in that style – or better, in this awesome mix of styles where you can hear the source of inspiration but the song is still something original and not just a copy. In between there are several twists and turns to avoid well-trodden paths, and perhaps also a reference to their home country (e.g. the rhythm of the epic instrumental Hymn of the Dead) – and in my opinion there could have been more of that. Towards the end you even find a Power ballad (Martyr).

Summing up, if you like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Riot, Saxon, Running Wild, Manowar, Manilla Road, Tank, Dio or Overkill you cannot go wrong here.
