There’s more to Portugal than the Band Moonspell – Hardrock fans should give this one a try. reinhören. BARROS is a solo project of Tarantula‘s guitar player Paulo Barros, alongside the brilliant and talented musicians Pico Moreira – Drums, Vera Sà – Bass and singer Ray Van D who is also responsible of all the lyrics.
Ray Van D’s lyrics explore themes as diverse as “Love as a driving force that goes beyond” and “fast food music”; as well as a reflection on the lack of humanity in the world today, but also a dose of humor that is Murphy’s law: “Where if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong in the worst way at the worst time and in such a way as to cause the greatest possible harm”.
Musically the band focuses on classic hard rock which fans of Van Halen, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Bon Jovi, Harem Scarem, Whitesnake, Jethro Tull etc. Will surely enjoy. There’s also a touch of Prog to make sure it’s not entering the realm of kitsch. More Humanity Please was mixed and mastered by Harem Scarem singer Harry Hess in Canada. The cover was made by Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes (Gus G, Jeff Scott Soto, Kamelot, etc…)
Therefore it seems that it’s me and my preferences that I cannot be 100% convinced – although I can hear that the music is good and the album a nicely done variety of hardrock songs. Below a clip so you can get an impression yourselves …
