Deadpool 2

PG 16 / 1h 59min / release 17.5. 2018 – SPOILER-FREE

This time it’s not Valentine’s Day, but nevertheless my second date with Wade Wilson alias Deadpool was quite enjoyable, quite as expected. Or, well, when discounting the first 20 min …

Because everything that had disgusted me as a teenager already – this “love-forever” nonsense, those tons of slimy “family-is-everything” sentimental BS – well, that’s what you have to cope with here, too. Yet it seems this is absolutely essential for Deadpool 2 so that you enjoy the anarchy, the chaos, the dark humour, the display of brainless blood&guts-splatter-violence even more. And you’ll get a lot of that in Deadpool 2 too…

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is once again in a deep mess, partly of his own (wrong) doing, partly because of  Russel (Julian Dennison) and the evil Cable (Josh Brolin). Which means he needs a team which is partly recruited from familiar faces like Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Colossus (Stefan Capicic), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) and Weasel (T.J. Miller), partly some new heroes and heroines, e.g. Domino (Zazie Beetz) or Terry Crews as Bedlam. Deadpool as a team leader, that’s bound to fail – fail in spectacular and quite amusing/entertaining fashion, but still FAIL …

And no more about the plot – there’s a ton of insider jokes to enjoy as well as cameos, or scenes in the back ground – and I can promise you’ll have a lot of LOL and ROTFL moments. Yes, Deadpool 2 is as good as the first one – splatter, blood and violence spiced with dark sarcasm, and a good portion of breaking the fourth wall. Just like Thor would just be an arrogant asshole without the skill and the heart of a Chris Hemsworth, Ryan seems to be the embodiment of Deadpool. No matter how badly he fucks it all up, you simply cannot stop loving him …

Summing up, most of those 2 hours are indeed pure entertainment, a refreshing summer movie! The score is a big part of the pleasure too. I recommend to check out the music video of the Celine Dion theme song …  and of course, you need to stay seated until the very end!
