Neurosis – Fires Within Fires

Neurot Recordings   release 23 September 2016
Raw, slow, depressive, ultra-heavy – and I am not the expert to assess whether this is “better” or “worse” than any other Neurosis album before. I got what I expected: Sludge/Post Metal. Evil noise attacks, and you can even make out something like conventional tunes and vocals ( e.g. A Shadow Memory), and Broken Ground begins with a sort of romantic intro. Until the vocals come in – perhaps the most evil I had heard in a long time. Well, at least until the track “Reach”, the Horror Clown version of a Pop song… The intense repetitive riffing at Fire is The End Lesson has a mesmerising quality – something like the “hit song” of this album. This is the sound track for a h Zombie-Apokalypse, or real depressive moods, when you wish to wipe off this virus “humanity” from the face of this earth with a sound tsunami… or something like that. I am not quite at this low point yet, therefore I am not sure if would listen more often to this album than required for a review… for genre fans, and fans of the band, naturally a must-have.

Furthermore, there's painting, drawing, movies, theater... so you can expect some variety on this website too.
