Pain – Coming Home

Label: Nuclear Blast  Release: 9th September 2016  Playing Time: 42 Min

In the first decade of this millennium, Peter Tägtgren has been very active with his project called Pain. But it became a bit quiet around this band in recent years. Meanwhile, 5 years have passed since the release of the last album “You Only Live Twice”. So it is high time for a new sign of life!

The fantastic opener ‘Designed to Piss You Off’ shows that Peter did not forget how to write a great song. A nice, country-music-like Riff, a super catchy chorus and all the other ingredients that have made Pain as strong as they are today. The result is actually the best Pain song ever! Killer! The following tracks are also very well-done, although they do not live up to ‘Designed…’. ‘Call Me’ (with Joakim Broden of Sabaton), ‘Pain in the Ass’ and ‘Black Knight Satellite’ are more highlights. But towards the end, the quality level is much lower. ‘Final Crusade’, ‘Natural Born Idiot’ and ‘ Starseed’ are about average and do not leave a lasting impression.

All in all, “Coming Home” is a good album, although the quality level is not consistent. After all I have to say that I appreciate albums like “Nothing Remains the Same” and “Dancing With The Dead” a little bit more.
