It has been a while since a bearded lady conquered the world – with a great voice, charisma and a unique look. After the song contest buzz “the Queen of Austria” has not been idle: Conchita Wurst’s calendar is filled with Gala- and Human Rights concerts on all continents; from August 5-7 August she will appear at the Amsterdam Gay Pride, NL. She has just completed her first tour with a band: An evening with her own songs and cover versions of her biggest idols and influences, connected with personal stories and anecdotes, presented in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. We attended the final show in Berlin (photo-gallery below) and also managed to exchange some words …
Сonchita, you are so busy every day, so could you please describe your everyday routine?
Oh well, my everyday routine… It depends on whether I’m on stage or doing press and working in the public or being you know, privately, or doing things at the office. So if it’s a ‘home day’, let’s put it that way, everything is being more relaxed and actually I don’t need that much time in the morning, but when it’s the day with the wig and the lashes and the stuff, I need to have the full schedule and I need to have dates and times, where I have to be, so I сan run through everything. And you know, when it’s official appointment or whatever, so many things have to get planned from ‘what will I wear’ to ‘how I get there, who will address us’ and so on. Yeah, that’s a big difference!
Ok, tell me please, did you have a time to be with you family and friends, at least at Christmas, for example?
I do have a very balanced life and I see my family very often and my friends as well. Some days and weeks are terribly busy, but then I have days when I am basically more relaxed, so yes.
This was your first tour. What didn’t work out as planned? Or was everything going OK? Were there any accidents?
No accidents. The thing is that the whole tour was one huge experiment for me. That is my first tour ever and I wanted to learn about being on it. I am trying to figure it out, what is good for me, what works well, what are the things I probably will not repeat the next time. I am spending a great time learning so many things. And also I meet so many friends of mine, just like you, coming from far and wide. And it is amazing.
Last and crazy question: What would you do if you see a boy or girl fan in your hotel room in your bed?
That is a very strange question. I will not answer because it is very private…
But what I can say is, in my private life I am really happy to be a man and never wanted to become a woman. This is really just a look for the stage. I created the illusion and at the end of the day I am still a man and really enjoy that. So that is all I can say. But I am very happy, thanks for asking.
Thank you for the interview.
