Inglorious: Inglorious

Release: 19.02.2016 Label: Frontiers

Inglorious and their self-titled debut record are surely one of the most interesting releases of this year. That’s because this quintet unites an excellent selection of musicians. It all started in 2014 with the talented vocalist Nathan James, who has been singing for e.g. Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Uli Jon Roth. If you ask me, he’s one of the few singers who’re in the same league as big vocalists like Jorn Lande and still belong to the younger generation. Also on board is lead guitarist Andreas Eriksson (ex-Crazy Lixx), who accompanies James’ voice perfectly with his bluesy rock style. On bass and drums are Colin Parkinson and Phil Beaver, who have played together for 17 years, amongst others with Somerset. Finally, Will Taylor, on rhythm guitar, completes the group.

Especially interesting is the production process of the album. The band recorded it all at once, thus, there are no vocal lines prettied up ad nauseam etc. For the band it was important to capture a certain live atmosphere, which is certainly harder to do than the usual way of recording nowadays. The result is a powerful album full of bluesy, back-to-the-roots rock with modern elements – everything that makes a rocker’s heart beat faster. Fast tracks make way for power ballads and brilliant guitar riffs meet powerful vocals put to the extreme.

For me, Inglorious is hard to classify musically. But obviously, these five musicians know how to handle their instruments 120%; they enjoy playing their old school rock and put all their passion into their music. This is a well-done debut and I’m sure many more great albums will follow.
