No need to explain which kind of music this band from Southern Italy is up to. Doomenicus was already born in 2001, but remained frozen for five years, until suitable bandmembers could be found. Recently their official self-produced album came out and impressed STALKER (review here ), so let´s have guitarist “Murnau”and drummer Crazoyde of Doomenicus introduce the band:
Who are you? Please introduce all band members
The band members are: Domenico “Doomenicus” Caruso (vocals and bass), Alessandro “Murnau” Nespoli (guitars), Stefano “Iubal” De Vito (guitars), Davide “Crazoyde” De Vito(drums).
Where are you from? What is the Metal scene in your town/country like?
We come from Foggia, a small town in the south of the Italy. Unfortunately here there isn’t a “True” Metal scene.
What kind of music do you play? And why this particular music?
We play a true traditional doom metal with some pieces of funeral doom/drone style. We’ve chosen this particular style because it’s not very played and because we can express better our soul.
Who do you want to reach, or what do you want to achieve with your music?
When you can play very slow, you can listen very well what you are playin’ and you can feel better your feelings and passions, and this is the best message that we can reach. Behind our spooky sound there are perserverance and passion.
How did it all begin?
The band starts in 2001 as a two-man band (Doomenicus at vocals, and Baron Frankenheimer at guitar). In this way Doomenicus record the first cd Suffering of Souls (2002). After seven years of silence the band born again with the actual members. After seven years we have self-produced the second work, Sacred, our first full-lenght cd.
Who are your musical idols, what are your most important musical influences?
We listen a lot of music, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Frank Zappa, Paolo Catena, Dead Can Dance, and much more…
Who writes the music /lyrics, or are all in the band responsible?
Basically all the text are written by Domenico. Instead the music is arranged by the band.
What do you do if you are not in the band (studying, working)?
Doomenicus is barber, Murnau and Crazoyde attend to university and Iubal is an engineer.
What would you pick if you had to choose between sex, drugs and Rock´n´Roll?
We choose Rock’n’roll.
What is your dream, where does your motivation come from?
Our dream would be that to be able to promote our music more, as much as possible. Surely we are motivated from the fact that we are one of the few bands of South Italy to play doom metal. The good reviews that we have received, also push us to do always better.
What will you do if you don´t get to have a career in music business?
Have a career in music business is too hard today, especially for us that play doom (surely not a mainstream music). I would like to being a teacher.
What was the most exciting/the most disappointing moment in your band history?
There are two exciting moment in our history: when we have completed Sacred, and when we played in Vienna at DOOM OVER VIENNA III. Excellent organization, beautiful people…wow!
There’s a not a disappointing moment in our history
What was the most absurd thing that happened to you?
Absurd???mmmh…probably before our last show; we have had some problems with management of the club and two amplifiers didn’t work.
What happened during your best/your worst live show?
For the worst live show read the previous answer; we don’t have play so much in these years, because it’s too difficult to find a club in our city that allow the metal bands to play.
Which song are you most proud of, and why?
Probably YOU’RE NOTHING. I don’t know why, but I think that is a song with a particular structure.
What do you think is cool/totally sucks about being a musician?
Oh man, it’s very cool being a musician…the groupies, the fans aahahah. When I was 16, being a musician was a dream, but today it’s very hard.
Which band would you enjoy touring with?
We have played with Doomraiser and Mydriasi (two important italian doom bands) and this is an important result for us.
It would be very nice to play with Candlemass, Cathedral or Black Sabbath.
What do you plan in the near future?
We hope to play too much and get some satisfaction with SACRED.
