Iron Mask – Diabolica

Label: AFM Records   VÖ: 23rd September 2016  Playing Time: 76 minutes

Iron Mask from the metallic no mans land Belgium are releasing their 6th studio album called „Diabolica“. The former studio project has meanwhile become a proper band that also plays live shows, just like they did at the beginning of 2016 when they were supporting Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody.

The opening of „Diabolica“ is quite hectic, overloaded, but also a kind of boring. ‚I don’t forgive, I don’t forget‘ has too much of everything, yet no working hookline. A strange opening, especially because the following songs show all the potential of the band. ,Doctor Faust‘‚ ‚Galileo‘, ‚The Rebellion of Lucifer‘, ‚The First and Ther Last‘ and ‚Ararat‘ are also quite complex, but their arrangements are much clearer and they all feature great hooks and choruses. The final ‚Cursed in the Devil’s Mill‘ presents during its 14 minutes all good aspects of Iron Mask, a really well done epic track, only the opening is a bit too long.

Because the flaws are minor and the sound has both power and transparency, „Diabolica“ has turned out a real strong piece of classic Heavy Metal.
