Rhapsody of Fire – Into the Legend

Label: AFM      Release: 15th January 2016    Playing Time: 67 minutes

Those who read my latest reviews of bands like Nightwish, Blind Guardian or Leave’s Eyes should know that I like epic, bombastic stuff. Nevertheless, I have never found access to the material of Rhapsody (of Fire). In my opinion, it was too overloaded, too hectic and not catchy enough.

All three points of criticism could also be listed for “Into The Legend” – although the album is really well-done and much better than its predecessors. It is the first one of this band that convinces me. There are two main reasons. First of all, the songs are much better arranged, making it easier to follow their main themes. Second, and even more important, the melodies and choruses are much more catchy than before, but they never become to cheesy. Songs like ‘Distant Sky’, ‘Rage of Darkness’ and the title track belong to the best epic songs released in the past years. Those who like the bands mentioned in the beginning of this article, should also like this CD. Don’t hesitate to listen to it!
